Liverpool in talks to sign Stoke City attacker

According to the Stoke Sentinel, Liverpool have begun talks with the representatives of Stoke City and Switzerland forward Xherdan Shaqiri about a potential move to Anfield during this summer transfer window.

It’s thought that the midfielder will carry a price tag of around £13.5m due to Stoke’s position in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League last season. The Mirror has suggested that Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton alongside West Ham, Tottenham and Southampton are also interested in signing the Swiss international in the coming weeks.

Shaqiri himself was asked about his future during this weekend as he prepared for the World Cup in Russia with Switzerland but as the Mirror Reports, he said:

“I can’t tell you anything.”

“My agents take care of my future. I’m focusing on the national team right now.”

The Stoke City forward would be a fantastic signing for the Reds and would be brought in as an alternative to forward Nabil Fekir who’s proposed move to Anfield has reportedly hit a stumbling block and appears unlikely to go through.

Shaqiri’s £13.5m price tag would only be a fraction of Fekir’s valuation and would enable Liverpool to bring the ex-Bayern Munich player in on the cheap, rather than paying over the odds for a young emerging talent to make the move to Anfield.

Shaqiri will feature for Switzerland in the coming weeks in the World Cup and is likely to play a key part of his national team’s sides potential success in the competition that starts this Thursday.
