It may sound daft but some clubs need to be relegated. Where some need to avoid it at all costs some juts need to rebuild in a league they can have the transition period and push forward. West Bromwich Albion are a great example, years of not really doing much and this season they have the chance to start over.
The way West Brom went down was almost the perfect way to go down. They look dead and buried but after a change in manager they fought until the end and went down with their respect fully in tact. Darren Moore had a successful audition and got the job and the bigger players will probably head out the door, brining in some money for new recruits. Jonny Evans has already departed but the squad remains strong.
Jay Rodriguez, Jake Livermore and Solomon Rondon could all yet leave but the players needed are still going to be there, players that will be more than capable of impressing at Championship level. Sam Field is a very good example of someone who can now develop without the extreme pressure of the Premier League and there are others who will probably relax and enjoy the rough and tumble rather than the fish bowl.
Chris Brunt, Gareth McAuley, James Morrison, Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu are all players who have been treading water at Premier League level and can now go from being Premier League strugglers to some of the best players in the Championship IF West Brom can hit the ground running.
There is one player in particular that this will benefit and he has starred in the recent tournament in Toulon for Scotland, Oliver Burke. The youngster arrived at West Brom after a mixed spell in Germany with Red Bull Leipzig but he never really got into his stride at West Brom last season. He didn’t really get a solid run where he could build up form but the Championship is exactly what he needs.
Burke is a pace demon and the Championship will suit his style of play because he likes to get involved from deep if he can, the demands of the Premier League meant running with the ball in a team at the bottom of the league doesn’t happen. Coaches of Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew restrict players and Burke was one. He had a very good tournament captaining the Scots in France, one goal in particular shows how good he can be.
If West Brom play their cards right they could have the hottest young talent and one of the best players in the league by Christmas.
