AC Milan sign Sunderland forward on £4.95million deal

Sunderland forward Fabio Borini will move to AC Milan on a permanent deal on July 1st, after securing a £4.95 million move.

Earlier today, the deal was officially announced via Sunderland’s official Twitter account, with the move set to be officially confirmed at the start of next season.

Although Sunderland and Milan are yet to confirm how long the deal is for and for what transfer fee, Transfermarkt have reported that the transfer is worth just shy of £5 million.

The 27-year-old has spent the past season on loan in his native Italy with Gennaro Gattuso’s side and has helped to guide them to qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa League campaign, where Borini could face his former side Chelsea.

During the 2017/18 season, Borini scored 5 goals and provided seven assists for the Rossoneri during his 44 appearances in all competitions.

Throughout the majority of the Italian’s career, Borini has shown that he is a natural striker. However, his time in Italy over the past 11 months has shown a different side to his game.

Many of Borini’s 44 appearances under Gattuso and Vincenzo Montella have seen him play in a variety of positions, including both wings, the right, centre and left of midfield and as a full back on either side.

Despite only playing senior football since making his debut for Chelsea September 2009, Borini has already earned himself a reputation of being a journeyman, with Milan being his seventh club since March 2011.

Borini has one cap for Italy to his name, which came against the United States of America in a friendly in February 2012; he replaced Alessandro Matri after an hour during a 1-0 defeat in Genoa.
