Tottenham emerge as new favourites in the race for Villa midfielder

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the new favourites to sign Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish, according to a report from the Bristol Post.

Grealish has been constantly linked with a move away from the club since the Villains failure to secure promotion back to the top flight, and now Spurs are the latest club to be linked with the youngster.

The 22 year old has come through the ranks at Villa Park and has performances this season have attracted the interest of a number of Premier League sides.

After suffering an injury early this season, Grealish went on to make 27 appearances for the club, notching three goals.

The academy graduate is no stranger to the Premier League having made 34 appearances for Villa during their time in the top flight.

Grealish has made 92 appearances for Villa since his debut against Manchester City in 2014, scoring nine goals for his boyhood club.

Villa have recently hit financial trouble and they may be forced to sell one of their main assets in a bid to provide a short term cash flow.

The Midland club will also need to cut their wage bill and Grealish as one of the clubs highest earners may be sacrificed.

Spurs were rumoured to be interested in signing Norwich City’s James Maddison, but the former Coventry midfielder looks set to sign for Leicester.

Pochettino has acted quickly and has now set his sights on Grealish.

The playmaker looks set to depart Villa Park this summer, but he won’t go cheap and Spurs will not be short of competition in a bid to land the former England U21 international.
