Preston North End left-back is a target for Premier League side

Cardiff City are targeting a move for Preston North End defender Greg Cunningham, according to BBC Sport.

The Bluebirds are preparing for life in the Premier League next season and want to boost their defensive options with the signing of Cunningham. Their manager, Neil Warnock, tried to sign him last summer as well.

The 27-year-old has impressed for Preston in the Championship over the past couple of seasons and could be rewarded with a move to the Premier League.

Cunningham, who has made four caps for the Republic of Ireland, started his career at Mervue United before being snapped up by Manchester City in 2007. He made 5 appearances for current Premier League champions in the top flight but gained most of his first-team experience out on loan.

He spent time on loan in the second tier with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest but he left Manchester City on a permanent deal to join Bristol City in 2012. Cunningham spent three years with the Robins and played 107 games for them.

Preston then brought him to Deepdale in 2015 for an undisclosed fee when Bristol City were in League One. Cunningham has since become a key player for them and they will not want to lose him this summer.

Neil Warnock is expected to be a busy man this summer as he scouts the country looking for players who would improve his Cardiff City side. Greg Cunningham is one who could make the move to Wales.
