Leeds United contract deal closes in on £40,000 a week striker

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Abel Hernandez appears to still be locked in contract discussions with Leeds United – but these are believed to be at an advanced stage with a deal thought to be closing in.

Hernandez supposedly earned around £40,000 per week at his former club Hull City. Given the fact that this is an incredibly large salary for a Championship player, it shows Hernandez’ quality if you take into account that Leeds United seem so keen to sign him. The Yorkshire Evening Post suggests though that the finances of Hernandez’ contract aren’t a particularly massive issue with the Elland Road outfit planning to install a release clause in his contract should Leeds United not manage to secure promotion this season.

Leeds United Fans became excited last night when the striker tweeted “Great are news coming soon”, which suggests that a deal between the West-Yorkshire side and the Uruguayan striker appears to be closing in.

Although Hernandez would move to Elland Road on a free transfer, his hefty wage packet will mean that weighty expectation will be placed upon his shoulders for this upcoming season and he’ll be expected to deliver goals to fire Leeds United towards promotion.

It’s thought that Leeds United have made alternative provisions if the two parties fail to make an agreement on Hernandez’ contract – but at present everything seems to be moving swimmingly and the Whites will be hoping they can secure their man in the coming days.
