Middlesbrough eyeing £2 million swoop for FC Zurich striker

Middlesbrough are considering a move for FC Zurich striker Michael Frey, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Championship side are believed to have watched the 23-year-old play and score in FC Zurich’s recent 2-1 win over Young Boys in the Swiss Cup final. Frey is valued at around £2 million and could be on his way to the Riverside this summer.

Frey has been in impressive form for FC Zurich this season and has scored 16 goals in all competitions, with 12 coming in the league.

Middlesbrough are keen to bolster their squad this summer in preparation for another campaign in the Championship next term. Tony Pulis is hoping to mount another promotion push and is hoping that they can work out a deal for Frey.

The former Switzerland Under-21 international started his career at Young Boys and became a key player for them as a youngster. He was snapped up by French Ligue 1 side Lille in 2014 but struggled to break into their team.

Frey was loaned out to Luzern in 2016 before leaving France on a permanent basis to re-join Young Boys in July 2016. He scored 8 goals on his return season to Young Boys before FC Zurich signed him for just £360,000 last summer.

Michael Frey is a promising striker and has a bright future ahead of him. He is 6ft 2inc so would give Middlesbrough another striking option for next season, should he make the move to the Championship.
