Mexico manager backs Bielsa for Leeds job after discussing role with him

Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio has backed Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa to succeed at Leeds United after the pair met and had chatted about the job a few weeks ago. Bielsa is in advanced talks with the club over a shock move to Elland Road.

Leeds have apparently been in discussions with Bielsa for some time and as the hours tick by more and more is developing. Less than 48 hours ago Claudio Ranieri was wanted by Leeds fans, Paul Heckingbottom was in Greece still thinking he was in the job and we were about to announce a pre-season tour of the south of England. Now we are on the brink of appointing the ex-Argentina manager, Claudio Ranieri is the forgotten man, Paul Heckingbottom is out of a job but we are still touring England.

The Mexico boss has revealed that the pair had met and Bielsa had discussed the move to Leeds with him, backing him to gain promotion and live his dream of managing in the Premier League. It shows how long these negotiations have been going on for and maybe Bielsa sees this as a chance to show he can do it with a lesser team, a challenge he can really get his teeth into after struggling to make the impact he wanted in France with Lille. The revelations that have come out from the manager of Mexico tell us that Bielsa is very serious about the Leeds job, it’s just getting it over the line.

Can Leeds actually do this deal? Who knows, indications are we have got very close so hopefully the Argentine isn’t put off by anything, we are Leeds United after all so this sort of thing doesn’t happen to us. If it does happen then this would be one of the biggest appointments in the history of the football club and it would send a message out all over the world. The signs are that this is looking likely but when you read the words of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino it does become very surreal he would even consider taking the job.
