Wolves remain favourites to sign former fan favourite

Wolverhampton Wanderers are still leading the race to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Bakary Sako, according to odds given out by bookmakers Bet Victor.

The Crystal Palace man was out injured for the majority of the 2017/18 campaign, and his contract at the Premier League club expires at the end of June. It remains to be seen whether or not Roy Hodgson is interested in offering the Mali international a new deal.

It seems that if he does not get offered a new deal at Selhurst Park, then he will move back to Wolves, the club that he left to move to London, with the recently promoted side being given odds of 2/1 to secure his signature.

Sako departed Molineux in 2015 following the conclusion of his contract. He had originally moved to the Midlands club back in 2012 for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.2 million.

Despite Wolves’ relegation from the Sky Bet Championship during his first season, Sako enjoyed a good campaign personally, scoring ten goals and assisting 11, before an injury in March ended his season. Things could have perhaps been different for Wolves if Sako had not got injured, but it wasn’t to be and they were resigned to third tier football.

Both Wolves and Bakary Sako took Sky Bet League One by storm, winning the league comfortably. Sako was the joint top goalscorer in the division, and was named in the 2013/14 Sky Bet League One team of the season.

Sako picked up where he left off in the Championship, and he was named in the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship team of the season in his final year at the Black Country club.
