Fans react to Newcastle’s reported interest in Middlesbrough winger

Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore has been linked to many a Premier League club; from West Ham to Tottenham to Chelsea. But Newcastle are the newest club to be linked with the flying winger, according to The Sun.

Middlesbrough’s asking price for the midfielder is around the £25 million mark. But it is reported that Rafa Benitez at Newcastle is looking to secure Adama for a figure of £15 million.

On a poll on local news site Gazette Live, Middlesbrough fans valued the Spaniard at £33 million on average, over double the reported bid from Newcastle United.

Adama Traore signed from Aston Villa in 2016, but wasn’t given a solid run in the team until Tony Pulis took over in December 2017. Karanka, Steve Agnew and Garry Monk all attempted to get the best out of Traore, but all failed.

Many Boro fans may have considered selling him given his performances under previous managers, but his form under Pulis has shown how vital he is in the Middlesbrough side. His goals and assists propelled Boro up the table, and gave them a shot at promotion in the Play Offs.

Traore has been excellent for Boro this season, especially since the arrival of Tony Pulis in December. Since then he has scored five goals and assisted 10. He has proven the doubters wrong who believed he was a one trick pony with no end product.

With Newcastle linked, Middlesbrough and more specifically Pulis’ head could be turned, in order to get vital funds to build a team of his own.

These two Boro fans believe a bid of double the amount would be more fitting for Adama:

Although this Middlesbrough fan thinks that £15 million on its own wouldn’t be enough, he believes a cash plus player deal would be more useful:

Some Middlesbrough fans think that given the Spaniard’s form this season, £15 million is laughable.

Many Newcastle fans have been quick to jump to the conclusion that Traore has no end product, a stigma that’s been attached to the winger since he first arrived on Teesside. This Middlesbrough fan addressed it head on, and predicted big things for the winger, although it may be slightly tongue in cheek.
