Wolves in discussions with Portugal international striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers have held talks with AC Milan over potentially signing striker Andre Silva for a club-record fee.

The Portuguese forward moved to Italy at the start of this season from Porto for £30 million, but after a tricky debut season with Gennaro Gattuso’s side, Silva could be on the move once again.

Silva was originally linked with a move to this season’s Sky Bet Championship winners earlier this month by The Sun, but according to Calciomercato, the forward’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who has a number of other clients currently playing for Wolves, has recently held talks with both clubs over a potential transfer this summer.

Milan are wanting at least €31 million (£27.1 million) for Silva if they are to let him depart, but the seven-time European Cup winners could be inclined to let him leave due to their ongoing risk of failing Financial Fair Play (FFP).

A potential deal would smash Wolves’ transfer record, having set it at the start of this season by forking out £15.8 million to sign Silva’s former club-teammate and current international colleague, Ruben Neves from Porto.

Mendes’ current clients playing for the Old Gold include Neves, Diogo Jota, Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro.

It is unlikely that further discussions will take place until after the FIFA World Cup in Russia, which is starting next month. Silva is part of Portugal’s 23-man squad who will be face Spain, Morocco and Iran in Group B.

Silva’s debut season with the Rossoneri failed to live up to expectations; despite scoring a brace in his full debut during a 6-0 victory against Shkendija in a Europa League qualifier, the 22-year-old only scored 10 times in 40 appearances in all competitions, eight of which came in the Europa League.

Wolves are not the only team hopeful of acquiring the young striker, who has 20 senior caps and 11 goals for his native Portugal, with Monaco also reportedly interested in Silva.
