Leeds United transfer target – journalist gives important update

With the EFL transfer window opening early, to tie in with the Premier League window, it can only mean one thing – a similar early start to ‘silly season’ and rumours linking clubs to players.

That goes for all clubs really, with Leeds United often being at the forefront of the pack with links flying in left, right and centre. Current favourites to sign on the dotted line at Elland Road are Uruguayan striker Abel Hernandez and former United loanee Kyle Bartley.

Another player linked with the Whites has been Union Berlin left-back Kristian Pedersen, who has been linked quite extensively with Leeds by big-hitting German media sites such as Bild. Bild reported at the start of this month that 23-year-old Pedersen, who is contracted until 2019, had “aroused the interest” of Championship side Leeds.

As the following tweet shows, Pedersen took a snap in an airport and suddenly silly season went in to overdrive.

That very fact that the picture was snapped in an airport was enough to get Leeds United fans commenting and sharing the snipped and saved image on Twitter and across Facebook.

Pedersen, who arrived at Union Berlin in 2016 from Danish side HB Köge, made 32 appearances for the 2.Bundesliga side – scoring once against Sandhausen and providing four assists across the campaign.

Leeds United have suffered somewhat at left-back since Charlie Taylor was sold to Premier League Burnley. Right-back Gaetano Berardi filled in from his usual position, midfielder Vurnon Anita and winger Stuart Dallas doing the same.

The Whites splashed out £1.5 million on Laurens De bock from Club Brugge, but the jury is still out on him. Youngster Tom Pearce emerged from the Under-23s at the tail-end of the season and showed his promise. However, Leeds fans will quickly tell you that a regular left-back is one thing that would go down well at Eland Road.

However, journalist Lee Sobot’s reply to the above tweet may throw some cold water on the rumours of Pedersen’s impending ‘arrival’ at Elland Road, quelling rather than fanning the flames.

If Sobot’s words ring true, Leeds United fans may have to wait a little longer before they receive news of the club’s first signing of the summer.
