Godden, Star League Two striker ‘available for transfer’

Star League Two striker ‘available for transfer’

Stevenage FC chairman Phil Wallace has today confirmed that striker Matty Godden is ‘available for transfer’. The highly-regarded 26-year-old is set to leave the club he has played for since 2016, having not taken up the opportunity to sign an extension.

The Sky Bet League Two club have also revealed that they have received’ several enquiries’ for their prized asset. Godden, who joined from Ebbsfleet, netted 14 goals for the club as they ended the campaign in 16th position.

Stevenage manager Dino Maamria is therefore likely to prepare for the new campaign without the front man, who is not easily replaced.

Wallace has stated that twice they have offered improved terms to the forward, but that he is likely to move on,

“We have twice offered Matt a significantly improved new contract to stay with us for another couple of years but he has politely refused that, so we won’t stand in his way if we get the right offer during the transfer window.”

HITC has reported that Sky Bet League One outfit Peterborough United have agreed a fee to sign the player, however they are almost certainly going to face competition from a number of other clubs in their division and League Two.

Godden came through the ranks at Scunthorpe United, but never really stamped his authority on the first-team scene at Glanford Park. This led to several loan moves away from the North Lincolnshire club. Ebbsfleet, who he eventually joined permanently, Dartford and Tamworth all had his services for a period of time. His reputation though has enhanced since joining Stevenage, leading to a host of clubs now chasing him this summer.
