After a season with Notts County, Rae and Ince went to Blackpool and the Seasiders finished 15th in the Championship. However, they both the club in January 2014. Rae’s next move was to Belgium and he joined Alex McLeish at Genk, working as his assistant manager for a year.

Rae then got a managerial role in August 2014 with Scottish Championship side in December 2015. He spent nine months in charge of the Buddies but was sacked in September 2015. He won 40% of matches with St Mirren. He could now be handed a route back into management with Sunderland this summer.
