Scunthorpe United chairman Peter Swann has revealed to the official club website that Nick Daws has been offered the job as First Team Manager. Daws has been in caretaker charge of the club, guiding them into the play-offs, only to be defeated by Rotherham United earlier this week.
He has been assisted by Andy Dawson throughout, and Swann also confirmed that Dawson has been offered the official role of Assistant Manager at Glanford Park. It is very likely that the duo will indeed accept terms and take on the job on a full-time basis, although this is yet to be officially confirmed by the Iron.
Swann insists the pair have done enough to warrant taking on the task for the upcoming season,
“We have been very pleased with how Nick and Andy have done during their time in interim charge, and also during their previous spell in 2016, and feel they deserve to be given the opportunity to take the team forward into the 2018-19 season.”
Graham Alexander was sacked in March, and Daws was swiftly named as his initial temporary replacement. The club were on a run of one victory in 13, but Daws suffered just one defeat in nine prior to their play-off encounters with Rotherham. The first leg ended 2-2, before a 2-0 setback in the second leg meant it was more play-off heartbreak for the North Lincolnshire outfit.
Following defeat at the New York Stadium on Wednesday, it was confirmed that the club would be holding talks with Daws and Dawson on Friday (today). With those talks seemingly at an end, it has been resolved that they have been offered full-time jobs to remain at Scunthorpe longer-term in more senior roles.
