Peterborough United sign Accrington Stanley goalkeeper

Peterborough United have signed goalkeeper Aaron Chapman on a free transfer from Accrington Stanley.

The 27-year old shall join the club once his current deal at Accrington expires – meaning that he joins the club on a free transfer.

Chapman had a superb 2017/18 season, helping his current club gain promotion to Sky Bet League 1 and claiming the Golden Glove (the award for most clean sheets in the league) with Stanley.

Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “I love football, I have had a little break and to be honest, I am already ready to get back and get started. It is good to get the deal done so early and I can’t wait to help Peterborough with their ambition of getting into the Championship.”

Steve Evans, the Peterborough boss, was happy to get his man, especially considering the fact that several other third tier clubs were also trying to secure his signature.

Ultimately though, Posh are the ones who have managed to sign the 27-year old.

Steve Evans said on the club’s website: “He is a young man that needs an introduction to Posh supporters and he does need one because when you are in League One, you are perhaps not paying much attention to the league below but Aaron has kept nearly 20 clean sheets for Accrington and is a massive reason why Accrington Stanley are now in League One.”

Chapman is a tall goalkeeper, standing at a huge 6ft 7in and he also has a wealth of EFL experience having played for Accrington, Bristol Rovers and Chesterfield. He also had a brief time on loan at Chester.
