Jaap Stam, Former Man United defender favourite to be next Leeds United manager

Former Manchester United manager Jaap Stam has become the bookies’ favourite to be the next permanent manager at Leeds United.

The ex Reading boss has been given odds of 6/4 to become the next man in charge at Elland Road, despite the fact that Paul Heckingbottom is still in charge.

Bookmakers Paddy Power have given the odds, with Mick McCarthy and Steve McClaren two names who have also been linked with a move to Yorkshire.

Paul Heckingbottom only took charge of Leeds United in March, but he failed to turn their fortunes around.

Leeds United had a very disappointing season, finishing 13th in the Sky Bet Championship, despite owner Andrea Radrizzani setting targets before the season began of a top six finish.

That did not work out, and former manager Thomas Christiansen lost his job in February after failing to impress the Italian owner.

Heckingbottom has done very little to impress since taking charge at Elland Road, and he is yet to receive the backing of the Whites owner, and many fans have called for the former Barnsley boss to leave the club before the transfer window begins, to give a new manager a chance to bring in his own players.

And it seems that if Paul Heckingbottom is let go, Jaap Stam will be the man that they choose to replace him with.

The Dutch manager led Reading to the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs back in 2016/17, but they were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town.

He was then let go from the Berkshire club this season, after the Royals ended up in a relegation battle.
