Sunderland striker linked with summer switch to Premier League new boys

Sunderland striker Joel Asoro is being linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the Daily Star.

The 19 year old is a product of the Black Cats academy, and starred in a 3-0 win over Wolves on the final day of the season.

It was enough for Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo to take an interest in the Swede.

The youngster has scored three goals this season, as well as registering an assist in 29 appearances for the club this campaign.

Wolves are not the first club to be linked with Sunderlands academy prospect.

Arch rivals Newcastle have been linked with a move for Asoro, as well as Tottenham Hotspur.

The Black Cats will find it hard to keep hold of their striker after relegation to the third tier.

His contract expires next summer, so the club could risk losing Asoro for free if they opt not too sell him during the transfer window.

Asoro, Josh Maja, George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch all have just one year left on their deals, and Honeyman is another academy graduate being tracked by top flight teams.

Asoro was offered a new deal by Sunderland’s former manager Chris Coleman, alongside Maja, but is yet to commit his long term future at the Stadium of Light.

Asoro was named as the Sunderland Supporters Association young player of the year for the 2017/18 season after impressing during his breakthrough season in the North East.

Asoro won’t be short of offers this summer, but Sunderland will be hoping to hold on to their striker in the hoping of gaining instant promotion back to the Championship.
