Wolves chasing Brazilian defender

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Atalanta’s Brazilian defender Rafael Toloi, according to the Birmingham Mail.

With Wolves playing in the Premier League next campaign, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be keen to bolster his squad ahead of their season opener.

Toloi is a former Brazilian under twenty international, and has played on 38 occasions for Atalanta this season.

He was linked with a move to Inter Milan last summer, but the move did not materialise as his parent club demanded a £15m fee for his services.

If a move to Molineux did come about, then the defender would face stiff competition from the likes of Willy Boly and Conor Coady who have been exemplary for the Midlands club this campaign.

However, they are yet to agree a deal which see’s Boly sign permanently, so Toloi could be viewed as a potential replacement for the Frenchman.

The Champions had a productive season defensively, only shipping 39 goals and John Ruddy claiming the Championship Golden Glove award.

It was the joint best defensive record alongside Cardiff City.

It is being reported that Wolves will have to battle with West Ham United if they want to secure the signature of Toloi.

The Hammers have had their defensive woes this season and are understood to be keen on signing the defender.

This will be Wolves’ first appearance in the top tier since 2012, after suffering relegation due to only five wins in the campaign.

They will be hoping for a better return this time around, and the signing of Toloi could go a long way in securing that.
