Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 8th: Paul Cook (Wigan Athletic)

Wigan Athletic head coach Paul Cook has been voted by you as the 8th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Cook is the 8th best manager in the Football League. He has moved up 12 places from last year when he finished in 20th place.
Cook became the Wigan head coach last summer after deciding to move on from Portsmouth where he guided them to the Sky Bet League One title. And he continued to show why his title of being one of the best lower division managers in the country is deserved by basically doing the same thing with Wigan this season.
After just having the summer to rebuild a squad that once again fell into Sky Bet League One, thus starting to become a bit of a yo-yo team, Cook made Wigan into a fantastic side that looked unbeatable at times. While they were startled by surprise package Shrewsbury Town at the start of the season, they soon got over that and rarely looked challenged in the second half of the season as they claimed the Sky Bet League One title and promoted back to the Sky Bet Championship.
Next season will once again see the Latics back in the Championship and this time Cook will want to make sure they stay in that league rather than get relegated again.
