Sherwood, Former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager linked with Ipswich Town

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager linked with Ipswich Town

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has held talks with Ipswich Town over filling the managerial void at Portman Road, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Sherwood has not held a managerial position since leaving Aston Villa in 2015.

However, he could find himself in the hotseat in East Anglia come the start of the new season.

Ipswich are currently managerless, after Mick McCarthy’s dramatic exist last month following a win over Barnsley.

The 49 year old spent time at Swindon Town last season in a Director of Football role, but left the Robins after they were relegated to League Two.

The former midfielder hung up his boots in 2005, after making only eleven appearances at Coventry City.

He spent three seasons with Ipswich’s arch rivals Norwich City during his playing days, so he would have to detach himself of any form of sentiment towards the Canaries.

It is understood that Ipswich owner Marcus Evans is looking for a manager who will bring a more attractive style of play to Portman Road.

McCarthy’s relationship with the fanbase was fragile, to say the least, and it was a contributing factor to his swift exit.

Sherwood’s first taste of managing came when he assumed first team coaching duties, following the sacking of Andre Villas Boas.

Despite being sacked twice, Sherwood led Aston Villa to an FA Cup final at Wembley and helped them stay clear of relegation in 2015.

If Sherwood was to take over the reigns of Ipswich Town it would be the start of a new era for the Tractor Boys who are looking to mount a promotion charge after 16 straight seasons in the second tier.
