Former £2m two-cap Holland international released from League One contract

He was out of the game for two years before being picked up from the free agent market by Oxford United, now Dutch-Surinamese right-back Dwight Tiendalli is facing that uncertainty again today according to transfer-tracking website Football Database.

Tiendalli, whose career started as a youngster in the youth set-up of Dutch giants Ajax, was once the subject of a near £2 million transfer when moving from FC Utrecht to fellow Eredivisie side Feyenoord in July 2006.

The Paramaribo-born right-back progressed through Dutch football to such a degree that he represented the country 28 times at age-group levels from Under-17 to Under-21. This international progression led to two full caps for Holland in two friendly games in 2013 against Indonesia (25′ appearance) and China (45′ appearance).

His Dutch football experience came to a halt in 2012 when, after three seasons at the club, Dutch side FC Twente released him from their books. Two months later and English football beckoned when he was picked up by Premier League Swansea City.

He was released after 47 appearances for the Swans and found himself sans club for two years between 2015 and 2017 before being rescued from the footballing scrapheap by League One Oxford under then-manager Pep Clotet.

His time at the Kassam Stadium has been but brief, Tiendalli being at the Us for just the one season. It is a season that brought about just 13 League One games which produced two assists and five further appearances in the Carabao and FA Cup competitions.

The release of their ‘retained list’ five days ago saw Oxford United manager Karl Robinson stating he’d already decided against offering a new contract to Tiendalli, but it seems that transfer-tracking website Football Database say that his release on to the free agent market is effective as of today.
