Sheffield United weigh up move for non-league star

Sheffield United have handed a trial to Matlock Town winger Zak Brunt, according to the non-league side’s website.

The highly-rated 16-year-old will spend the coming days with the Blades and will be hoping to earn a deal with the Championship side.

Matlock Town play their football in the Northern Premier League and are tipping Brunt for a big future in the game.

Sheffield United is a good place for young players to play and have had a number of players break into their team over the past decade. Two good examples are Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire, who both now play in the Premier League and will be at the World Cup this summer.

The Blades are trying to bolster their academy this summer by bringing in some young talent and Zac Brunt could be one who joins if he impresses on trial.

Sheffield United have had a solid season in this campaign and will finish in the top 10. They won the League One title last season and were in and around the Play-Offs for much of this campaign.

Their manager Chris Wilder’s long-term future at the club is in doubt at the moment amidst rumours linking him with Sunderland and ownership issues. However, this has not stopped the Blades from trying to boost their youth options by bringing in Brunt.

Zac Brunt is certainly a name for Sheffield United fans to look out for in the future.
