Preston North End close to signing League One star

Preston North End are closing in on the signing of Oxford United midfielder Ryan Ledson, according to The Sun.

The Championship side have been long-term admirers of the young midfielder and look to have finally made a breakthrough in their transfer pursuit of him. Alex Neil is now reportedly of completing a deal early in the summer window.

Preston have had an impressive season and could sneak into the Play-Offs on the final day if they beat Burton Albion and Derby lose to Barnsley. They are looking to further bolster their squad in the summer with the signing of Ledson.

Ledson started his career at Everton and joined his boyhood club when he was five. The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for the Blues in December 2014 in a Europa League tie against FC Krasnador. He has also represented England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 level so far in his career.

Everton loaned Ledson out to League Two side Cambridge United in November 2015 and he played 28 games for them. He was then snapped up on a permanent deal by Oxford United in August 2016 for an undisclosed fee.

Ledson has been a first-team regular and has plied his trade playing regular first-team football as opposed to playing youth team football for Everton right now. He now looks to be working his way back up to the top with a move to Preston in the pipeline.
