Hull striker linked with Aston Villa

Hull City and Uraguay striker Abel Hernandez has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Hernandez has been one of the better performances in a torrid season for the Tigers as they have struggled to adapt to life in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Uruguayan has an impressive record this season having scored eight goals in ten appearances in a campaign that has been littered with injuries.

Hernandez is no stranger to the management team at Aston Villa having worked under boss Steve Bruce during the pair’s time at Hull.

He starred in Bruce’s promotion season at the KCOM as he bagged 22 league goals in the 2015/16 season in 45 appearances.

Hernandez’s contract expires in the summer after seeing out his contract at Hull and will be able to begin negotiations with clubs following the expiry of his deal.

This is not the first time that Aston Villa have been linked with a move with the former Palmero striker. Former Champions League winner Roberto di Matteo wanted to sign the striker following Villa’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

The striker started his career at Central Espanol in the second tier of football in Uraguay. After scoring nine goals in his second full season for the club, he attracted attention from teams in the Primera Division. He would end up at Penarol.

This would give him the platform to attract interest from mainland Europe. Italian side Palmero took a gamble on the striker. A goal every four games would see him sign for Hull City in the Premier League in 2014. Hernandez has been the Tigers main talisman for the last four years, but could he leave on a free in the summer to potential Premier League bound Villa?
