Former Man United star wants Sunderland job

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has yet again thrown his hat into the ring to become the next manager of Sunderland, and has guaranteed an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship if he is appointed.

The Black Cats have had an horrific season, suffering back to back relegations, and they will play in the third tier next season for just the second time in their history.

Former Wales manager Chris Coleman lost his job earlier this week, amidst reports that a takeover was edging ever closer, and Dwight Yorke, who previously played for Sunderland, has said that he wants to take over, according to the Chronicle Live.

Speaking to Dubai Eye FM, York said: “I have tried to get it before. I got a call back and it was like a courtesy call saying we got your CV but they went for Chris.”

“I can’t knock the appointment of Chris because of what he had done with Wales but I still believe for all of the experience of what he has done, he had 25 games to turn that football club around.”

But that has not deterred Yorke, and he is determined to get the job this time round.

He said: “I love that job. If I was to get that job in Division One and I don’t get them promoted I shouldn’t be at the football club.

“I am just concerned about getting the results for this football club to get it back into the Championship and advancing from there.

“But ultimately, if I was given that chance with that team with my mentality, my philosophy, I am sure I would get that football club back in the Championship – without a doubt.”
