Barnsley defender hails ‘massive win’ in fight for survival

Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom believes that anything less than a win wouldn’t have been enough on Saturday, as the Reds overcame Brentford in their fight to stay in the Championship.

Goals from Kieffer Moore and Oli McBurnie were enough for the Tykes, as the reds secured a ‘massive three points’.

The Yorkshire side have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation on the final day, but they will have to go to Pride Park and win against Playoff chasing Derby County.

Speaking to the club website, Yiadom said: “It was a massive win, we went into the game knowing that we needed three points, and that a point or a loss wouldn’t really be good enough.

“We tried our best to get at them and put some pressure on them and I think, overall, we did that. We went and got the three points, which is massive.”

Moore’s goal got the ball rolling for the hosts at Oakwell, a cross that looped over goalkeeper Daniel Bentley gave the Reds a one nil advantage going into the break.

It was a slice of luck, but at this stage of the season Yiadom admits that  they’ll take anything they can.

“It doesn’t matter how they go in,” said Yiadom

“As soon as it nestled in the back of the net, that’s all that matters and I was buzzing.”

“It helps a lot, but we set out to win on Saturday and against Derby so, off the back of this result, we’re confident that we can go and do that.”

It’ll be a tough task for the Tykes on Sunday, but nothing less than a win will preserve Barnsley’s status in the Championship.

“I’ve not been looking at the top of the table,

“At this time of the season, form goes out of the window. We’ve just got to get three points and that’s what we’re going to try and do on Sunday.”
