Norwich midfielder set to sign contract extension at Carrow Road

Alex Tettey is set to sign a two-year contract extension at Norwich City, according to The Mirror.

It is understood that the Canaries will make an official announcement over Tettey’s future this week.

It had been reported that Tettey was unhappy at Carrow Road with the lack of first team opportunities, but it appears he has changed his mind and he is happy to stay in Norfolk.

The Norwegian international had already rejected contract offers from Norwich City, as he looked for a move back to Rosenborg, the club where he started his career.

Tettey has played on 27 occasions for The Yellows this season, as he has failed to nail down a regular starting spot under Daniel Farke.

The midfielder joined Norwich in 2012 from French club Rennes for an undisclosed fee, and he has gone on to make 162 appearances for the Canaries, scoring 5 goals in his 5 years at the club.

With it looking increasingly likely that star midfielder James Maddison will be sold in the summer, it may open the door for Tettey to establish himself under Daniel Farke.

Despite Norwich’s parachute payments from the Premier League coming to an end this summer, the sale of Maddison is likely to be upwards of £25m, which would allow Norwich to pay Tettey’s improved contract.

With Tettey set to extend his Canaries career for another two years, it looks as if the Norwegian will spend 7 years at Carrow Road. He’ll be hoping to mount a promotion push next campaign and spend a third season with Norwich in the top flight.
