Middlesbrough midfielder hoping to use experience to succeed in the Play Offs

Middlesbrough midfielder Jonny Howson is ready to use his experience of the Play Offs to his advantage, as Boro hope to progress and gain promotion to the Premier League.

Jonny Howson secured Middlesbrough’s top six finish on Saturday evening, scoring the second goal in their 2-0 win over Millwall at the Riverside Stadium. The result leaves them in fifth place with a game left to play.

Howson signed for Middlesbrough in the summer and although taking a while to get settled in, he has quickly become a mainstay in the side.

The former-Norwich man featured the last time Middlesbrough played in the Play Offs, as Norwich triumphed over Boro 2-0 at Wembley. But this time he will be wearing the red of Middlesbrough.

“Since I’ve been here, quite a few people have mentioned that game” said Howson, speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail.

‘I’ve been in the play-offs and I’ve lost in the semis, lost in the final and won the final, too. I’ve done the lot.”

With the midfielders experience, combined with that of the Middlesbrough team that lost the Play Off final in 2015, the Teessiders will look to triumph in the semi-finals and final this time around.

Given Howson’s ups and downs regarding the Play Offs he knows exactly how important these fixtures are for every club.

“It’s exciting. They’re huge games. You play football to be involved in occasions like that.”

Boro face Ipswich Town away next weekend in order to secure fifth place. As things stand, the Reds would face Aston Villa in the Play Off Semi Finals.
