Wolves keeper claims Championship Golden Glove award

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper John Ruddy has won the Championship Golden Glove award after his impressive season with title winning Wolves.

Ruddy was released by Norwich last summer, and he was quickly signed by Wolves as cover for Carl Ikeme.

The goalkeeper kept his 24th clean sheet of the season against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, as Wolves and Wednesday played out a goalless draw at Molineux to move the champions on to 99 points fr the season.

Ruddy has been at the forefront of one of the best defences in the Championship this campaign, as Wolves have conceded just 36 goals this season.

Wolves haven’t conceded in five games, and Nuno’s side have relied on defence in order to get them over the line.

The goalkeeper has been capped once by England in 2012, when he came on for Jack Butland at half-time against Italy to make his senior England debut. He made a number of key saves and helped the National side to a 2-1 win.

His nearest challengers to the award this campaign were Aston Villa’s Sam Johnstone (20), Derby County’s Scott Carson (19) and Cardiff City’s Neil Etheridge (18).

There were question marks over the signing of Ruddy during the summer after his disappointing season with the Canaries last campaign.

However, the signing of the veteran goalkeeper proved to be an astute acquisition for Wolves, and Ruddy has gone on to prove the doubters wrong by collecting the much coveted accolade.
