Everton loanee quiet on future with Championship club

Everton midfielder Mo Besic, who is currently on-loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, has remained quiet on his future beyond this season.

He signed for Middlesbrough on loan in January, and is contracted until the end of the season. Besic has suffered a difficult time at Everton since arriving in 2014, but has excelled at Middlesbrough under Tony Pulis.

The majority of, if not all, Middlesbrough fans would love to see Besic sign permanently for the club on a long-term deal. But there is no clause in his contract that would allow Middlesbrough to automatically trigger this.

The Bosnian and Herzegovina international, who has represented his country 30 times in total, signed for Everton for £4.8 million, and Middlesbrough may have to pay in excess of this to secure his services next season.

Speaking in an interview with The Northern Echo, Besic said “I feel really at home here. The supporters sing my name, even though I have not been here very long. I am happy here, and I want to give them something back on the pitch.”

And he certainly did that against Derby a couple of weeks ago. Besic scored the opening goal of the game, and his first for the club. Middlesbrough went on to win the game 2-1 to strengthen their hopes of finishing in the top six.

But Besic refused to be drawn out on his future after the season ends. He said, “I will be very happy if we can go to the Premier League, then I will sit down and talk about my future.”

“At the moment, I don’t want to think about that. I just want to keep going in the way that I have been, and hopefully bring Boro back to the Premier League. Then we can talk about what will happen.”

The 25-year old will no doubt be a starter on Saturday evening, as Middlesbrough host Millwall. A win for the home side will see them guarantee a play-off spot with just one game left to play.
