Leeds, Leeds United interested in Northern Irish winger

Leeds United interested in Northern Irish winger

Leeds United are interested in Northern Irish winger Gavin Whyte, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international has been in fine form for Crusaders this season, and  has scored 24 goals in 43 appearances for the club in what has been his most prolific campaign for the Northern Irish side.

Leeds have recently been linked with a number of wide players, so the speculation surrounding Whyte will not come as a suprise for many White’s fans.

He has been a consistent performer over the years in the Northern Irish league, and his performances for Crusaders didn’t go unnoticed in 2016 when he had trials with both Everton and Celtic during the summer.

In January, it was being reported that QPR were leading the chase for the 22 year old winger  He had won back to back player of the month awards prior to the Hoops’ interest and Crusaders claimed that scouts from Loftus Road had flocked to watch the winger on several occasions.

Whyte would surely welcome a move to Elland Road in order to link up with fellow countryman Stuart Dallas, whom he previously described as someone that he looks up too.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, he said “I see a player like Stuart Dallas as an inspiration.”

“Everyone talks about Stuart at the Crues and what he has achieved. Some people have said to me that I could follow in his footsteps. He has been brilliant going to Brentford and then he got his big move to Leeds, so that is inspiring.”

Interest in the winger will surely be rife during the Summer, but Whyte could prove to be a handy acquisition for Paul Heckingbottom at Elland Road.
