Birmingham fans react to crucial victory against Sheffield United

Birmingham City claimed a huge victory over Sheffield United at St Andrews, moving them five points clear of the relegation zone.

Jacques Maghoma secured the victory for the Blues in the second half, as the Midlanders came from behind to earn a win that virtually guarantees their safety in the Championship.

Blues fans have suffered another dreadful season this campaign. After confirming their survival on the final day of last season, Birmingham were expected to mount a promotion charge under Harry Redknapp this time around. However, after the sackings of Redknapp and Steve Cotterill, the Blues have been embroiled in a relegation scrap for most of the season.

Former Birmingham winger Mark Duffy had given the Blades an early lead at St Andrews, as they looked to put pressure on those above them in Playoff contention. United have endured an impressive first season back in the Championship as they look to go for back to back promotions. Chris Wilder’s side now lie in eleventh place, three points off the Playoffs with two games to go.

Marc Roberts side footed the home side back in front just past the half hour mark, scoring his first Blues goal in the process. Jacques Maghoma’s second half strike secured a win for the hosts who have flourished since Garry Monk’s arrival.

Birmingham now travel to QPR, before hosting Fulham on the final day of the season. A point would see the Blues mathematically safe of the drop.
