Oldham Athletic lose defender for the rest of the season

Oldham Athletic’s manager has confirmed the club will be without defender Kean Bryan for the rest of the season after he suffered a suspected pulled hamstring, according to Revolution962.

The 21-year old, is on loan at Latics from Manchester City, has been a main stay at the heart of Richie Wellens’ defence throughout the season after impressing during his first spell on loan between August and December.

This injury leaves boss Richie Wellens with a headache as he faces the final seven games of the season without captain Anthony Gerrard, who’s been missing for the past few weeks with an injury, and Kean Bryan also on the sidelines.

Wellens is likely to turn to academy product Tom Hamer had an impressive league debut as a first-half substitute – and producing a man-of-the-match performance at centre back alongside fellow youth graduate George Edmundson.

Oldham Athletic’s manager has tipped 18-year old Hamer for bigger and better things claiming the youth team product will be able to go all the way to the Premier League should he want to.

Hamer told Oldham Times “I’m not going to lie, I was a bit nervous, but then I am going to be nervous playing in front of a crowd like that.”

“I was excited though to get on and make my family proud – my mum, dad, sister and a few others were here today.”

“It was great to finally make my league debut. Their lads were hard to mark but I thought myself and George did alright. George talks to you a lot so it’s good.”

Latics new central defenders will be tested on Wednesday (11th April) when they host Walsall at Boundary Park.
