Owls boss refuses to rule out Manchester United move for striker

Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay admits that he cannot rule out the possibility of young striker George Hirst joining English Premier League giants Manchester United this summer according to Sky Sports.

The 19-year-old Sheffield born goal machine has been unable to agree a new deal at Hillsborough and looks set to leave the club this summer.

Leeds United have been linked with the player while Leicester City are also thought to be keen on Hirst. At the weekend, The72 reported that Manchester United could look to move to sign the 2017 Toulon Tournament winner this summer and when speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield manager Luhukay failed to deny that a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards.

Hirst has successfully graduated from the Sheffield Wednesday academy system and the striker has gone on to make two first team appearances for the South Yorkshire club. This season has seen talks over a new deal between club and player stall resulting in Hirst’s long absence from competitive action.

Wednesday boss Luhukay is not yet ready to admit defeat in the battle to retain Hirst but an extended stay for the player at Hillsborough looks highly unlikely and it may just be a question of which new destination the youngster will head for in the summer.
