Leeds United early team news: youngster travels with squad – could be involved

Leeds United’s summer 2017 transfer activity saw a restocking of the Under-18 and Under-23 squads, squads that had been neglected under the previous regime before Andrea Radrizzani took over at Elland Road.

These players came from both domestic clubs, such as Ryan Edmondson (York City) and Sam Dalby (Leyton Orient) as well as from clubs on the continent such as Real Madrid, Ajax and Barcelona. However, one player to arrive on these shores came via a trusted route for Leeds United – Paudie O’Connor arriving from Ireland.

O’Connor actually arrived ahead of the summer 2017 splurge on new players, arriving at Elland Road in early March last year. Prior to signing for the Whites, O’Connor was with League of Ireland side Limerick where in his two seasons, he made 39 appearances, scoring three goals.

16 of these appearances came as part of Limerick’s 2014/15 League of Ireland campaign that saw them relegated at the season’s end. The following season, he was an important part of the Limerick side that were promoted as champions after suffering only one loss and dropping just nine points across the entire 28-game season – the youngster scoring twice.

Up until now he has been a stalwart of the Leeds United Under-23 side, captaining them and being present at the ‘Battle of Rhyl’ where the Leeds United youngsters were involved in an unsavoury melee with the Welsh side.

However, as journalist and radio commentator Adam Pope says in his tweet (above), Irishman O’Connor is in Fulham with the Leeds United squad and could be involved in today’s match against a dangerous Fulham side at Craven Cottage.
