Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper targeted by fellow Championship side

Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Alnwick is a summer target for Sunderland, as per a report by HITC Sport.

The experienced shot stopper’s contract at Championship side Bolton Wanderers is due to expire in June but he is reportedly keen on signing a new deal with the Trotters. However, his future with the Whites depends on whether they will stay up and this has left Sunderland on red alert.

Like Bolton, Sunderland are also in a relegation battle and look like they will slip into League One as it stands under Chris Coleman. This has not stopped the transfer rumours from circulating and Alnwick is apparently a target for them, even if they go down.

Sunderland’s goalkeeper situation this season has been a major cause for concern. Both Jason Steele and Robin Ruiter joined last summer from Blackburn Rovers and FC Utrecht respectively but have been unreliable. The Black Cats signed Lee Camp on loan from Cardiff City in January, but with him returning to Wales at the end of the season, Sunderland will need a new ‘keeper next season.

Alnwick is a free agent in June as it stands and he could be on his way to the Stadium of Light. The 31-year-old, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic, Leyton Orient and Peterborough United, has established himself as Bolton’s number one goalkeeper this season and impressed for Phil Parkinson’s Whites.
