6 Leeds United youth players who deserve a bigger stage

One thing that Leeds United fans will largely agree on is that successive transfer windows have either been more hit than miss or possess a lack of forethought.

When previous owner Massimo Cellino took over the club, the transfer policy saw a stream of definite quantity over quality with cheap imports from the Italian leagues being seen at the force majeure at Elland Road. That pattern continued, albeit with a sprinkling of diamonds such as Chris Wood and, to a lesser degree, Kemar Roofe amongst the less valuable stones.

That’s a procedure that has largely carried through to the stewardship of Andrea Radrizzani and the watchful gaze of Director of Football Victor Orta at Elland road. The acquisition of players hasn’t been as haphazard and unpredictable as it was under Cellino, but there’s definitely been more of a leaning towards quality.

This is more so at the Academy/Under-23/Under-18 level where Radrizzani and Orta have gone about restocking and rebuilding a youth set-up that was left to fallow under Cellino’s hand. Now it is beginning to bloom and flourish and a lot of this is to do with the recruitment policy that has been put in place this season.

The Whites have cast their scouting nets both close to shore and in wider waters in an attempt to build up the youth sides to something representing an effective set of units. That has proven to be the case with both the Under-18s and the Under-23s doing well in their respective leagues.

With that in mind, on the following page are five Leeds United players currently in the Under-18s or Under-23s who deserve a look-in as the season draws to a close.
