Scunthorpe United goalscorer Toney has no complaints with home draw

Scunthorpe United striker Ivan Toney believes that his side’s 1-1 draw with struggling Rochdale at Glanford Park was a fair result.

His side were second best during the first half as Callum Camps gave Dale a 20th-minute lead but Toney headed in an equaliser six minutes after the break to rescue his side a point in the race for promotion.

Speaking to The72 after the match, Toney admitted that he had no complaints with the result.

“It was a fair result” said the youngster. “Both teams had their chances.

“We have got to look forward to the next game and hopefully take three points there.”

The Iron were booed by their fans as they left the field for the half time break and Toney was pleased with how his side regrouped.

Toney added “It was always going to be tough, everyone thought that it would be an easy game because they are near the bottom of the league but it’s clearly not.

“Half time helped us to regroup. The manager’s given us a few words and we managed to get the goal.

“Next time we have to try and get the three points.”

Toney’s goal against Rochdale moved the player within one goal of the 40 milestone, a real achievement for a striker of just 22 years of age. The forward was naturally delighted to score his side’s equaliser to help erase memories of back-to-back home defeats.

Speaking about his goal, Toney said “I just tried to get on the end of it and get a flick on.

“The game was there for the taking after that but we couldn’t get the three points and we move onto the next game.”

Finally, Toney praised the opponents who were good value for their point.

The player added “People were naturally going to think, if they’re (Rochdale) are down there, we need to beat them.

“I’ve said plenty of times that you don’t have a right to beat anyone in this league.

“To be fair to them, they were effective with the long ball and they won their fair share so it was tough.

Scunthorpe United are back in action on Good Friday when they travel to The Kassam Stadium to face Oxford United.
