Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall believes that their manager Aitor Karanka can take them back into the Premier League.

Spaniard Karanka took charge of the Tricky Trees back in January, replacing former boss Mark Warburton.

Since moving to Nottingham, Karanka has struggled for wins, having been victorious in just three of his 13 games in charge.

But 21-year-old defender Worrall, who was speaking ahead of England Under 21s’ upcoming matches against Romania and Ukraine, believes Karanka’s ability and experience speaks for itself.

He said: “He’s been there and done that.

“He was at Real Madrid as a player and he’s had a decorated career and I think that with his success at Middlesbrough as well, I think he is a manager that can get us out of this league and keep us in the Premier League.

“We’ve had a change of ownership, a few new managers and I think under Karanka now we can really build and get that philosophy going that Forest have had over the last few years.”

Worrall has featured for his side for most of their league campaign; however since the middle of February, the young defender has featured for only five minutes in Forest’s last seven Sky Bet Championship matches, after a slight injury saw him drop out of the team.

Recent performances from Danny Fox and Tobias Figueiredo have also prevented Worrall from returning straight back into the Tricky Trees’ defence, but the 21-year-old is keen to return to Karanka’s side as quickly as possible.

“I would like to get some more game time”, Worrall added.

“I’ve missed a few games through injury and I’ve not got myself back in at the moment because we are defending so well.

“I would like to get myself back on the pitch and see the season out I think, get some clean sheets under my belt and finish the season on a high.”

Worrall and his England Under 21s teammates are in action on Saturday against Romania in a friendly at Molineux; kick off is at 17:15PM (GMT).
