Coventry City have signed midfielder Carl Baker on short-term deal until the end of the season, confirmed by the club website.
Carl Barker is no stranger to Sky Blues fans having played for the club from 2010 to 2014. He played 182 games and scored 28 goals, and he proved to be a fans favourite for his attitude and committed performances in his first stint.
Boss Mark Robins, who worked with Baker in his previous spell, said “I’m very pleased to welcome Carl back to the club and delighted that he has regained general fitness and has shown through training with the first team that he can be an asset to us from now to the end of the season.”
“He has shown and expressed a desire to return to Coventry City Football Club and help us achieve our season goals.”
“It will be great for both parties as he is both a tremendous person and a great player to have around the club and a firm favourite amongst the supporters.”
Baker added “It feels great to be honest.”
“It’s just a relief and obviously it’s been a tough couple of months for me so its nice to get back involved and I’m looking forward to getting back going now.”
“I already feel like I’m settled in now already and I know most of the lads and some with my Portsmouth connections from last year, so it’s not felt like I’ve come into a new club at all and even in my first few days coming in I felt pretty settled.”
“I’ve come back hopefully to get promoted.”
“I’ve seen the lads training and the Gaffer has put some good sessions on over the last few weeks I’ve been here and they’ve been working really hard and the lads look like they’re in good shape.”
“There are some talented players here so hopefully I can bring in some more experience and help some of the younger lads, similar to what Michael Doyle does on a regular basis.”
After leaving in August 2014 for two seasons at MK Dons, he then had 18 months at Portsmouth before joining Teddy Sheringham’s Kolkata-based Indian Super League side ATK in January.
Baker will be eligible to play in Saturday’s SkyBet League Two fixture against Barnet at the Ricoh Arena, subject to EFL registration and international clearance.
