Middlesbrough take on ‘Beast from the East’ for Friday fixture

With the whole country suffering under the cold throes of a nasty blast of Siberian weather, Middlesbrough have today announced plans to take on the media-named ‘Beast from the East’.

It’s not going to a friendly fixture between a visiting side, and Ivan Drago isn’t in town, but rather it is Boro’s attempt to beat the cold snap that could threaten the fixture under the Friday night lights of the Riverside against Leeds United.

Boro, on a decent run of recent form, sit in 8th place in the Sky Bet Championship table and are just three points shy of the last of the play-off places currently held by Sheffield United. Friday’s opponents Leeds United, after their blazing start to the season, sit three places and three further points back in the table.

Boro posted the following tweet and link to a rolling article with the aim to keep fans informed as to whether the game will go ahead on Friday, or fall victim to the icy blast from Siberia.

A win for the Teesiders would be a welcome leg-up in their attempt to keep pace with the play-off chasing pack in a division where only seven points separate the play-offs from mid-table.

Boro’s last six games have seen them gather eight points from a possible 18 on offer, and they are working flat-out to make sure that this game has every chance of going ahead. The rolling document currently has the caveat that the “club cannot legislate for forthcoming weather, and more snow and freezing temperatures are forecast,” but does say that they are “working hard” to try to get the playing surface at a state where football can take place.
