Neil Warnock on Lee Johnson, ‘He talks a good game, like his Dad’

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has responded to comments made by Bristol City counterpart Lee Johnson prior to Sunday’s Severnside Derby, when speaking to Wales Online. Warnock compared Johnson to his father, Gary, with whom Warnock had some comings together with in the past.

Johnson stated that the atmosphere at the Cardiff City Stadium was ‘not too intimidating’, and pointed towards the ’empty seats’ at their home games despite enjoying an excellent season and battling for promotion. However, Warnock was quick to respond to that, stating that he wouldn’t have been so generous with an allocation of away tickets if he was in charge of the Cardiff ticket office!

“If I had my way, they (Bristol City allocation) would probably get 400. But it does make for a good derby when you get the opposition in their numbers.

“When we went to Bristol, I thought our fans were fabulous, even when we had 10 men. They rallied us on and we ended up being the better team in the end of the second half.”

Warnock was also made aware of Johnson’s comments towards the Cardiff supporters, and said he is not too concerned with what he had to say, similarly to his Dad, Gary Johnson, who currently manages Cheltenham Town,

“It’s great for the fans, they’ve said things about us and our fans have said things about them, the manager’s the same, so it’s great isn’t it.

“You want that in derbies. You know, Lee is like his Dad. He talks a good game and I don’t listen to much he says.

“I’m sure it’ll be a decent atmosphere, we’ll try and do our best for him.”
