Gary Bowyer praised the ‘terrific response’ from his side

Blackpool Gary Bowyer praised the ‘terrific response’ from his side after they backed up Tuesday’s midweek victory at Wigan Athletic with a 1-1 draw against Peterborough United.

Blackpool haven’t won at Bloomfield Road since the 18th of October but manager Gary Bowyer was delighted to snatch a point against Peterborough on Sunday as the gaffer told the club website “With the second-half performance, we were certainly on the front foot. The response from the players after going a goal down was terrific.”

“An enormous amount of effort went into the game on Tuesday so we looked a little leggy in the first half. The goal gave us a big boost going into half-time.”

“We came out in the second-half and had a right, good go, we huffed and puffed. I can’t praise the players enough for their efforts today as they needed to back up Tuesday night and I think they did.”

Bowyer was disappointed to concede, but believed his side played great football for equaliser.

“The first goal was important. Unfortunately, it was a little bit of a soft goal from our point of view but once we got ourselves over that, we had a good go in the second-half. The goal we scored is a very good goal. It’s a great bit of football. We just lacked a little more care in the final third towards the end.”

We learnt from the game that Blackpool are a better side when Jimmy Ryan is playing.

Club captain Jimmy Ryan has been in and out of the team in recent months due to a couple of injuries, so Jay Spearing has been preferred to the former Fleetwood Town man. But Ryan returned against Wigan Athletic in midweek and was fantastic, dictating play from deep and spraying the ball around at will.

He took that form into Sunday’s game against Peterborough where he was, once again, among the best performers – if not the best. When is Ryan on the ball, give him space and he will hurt opposition – it’s as simple as that.
