Norwich keen to extend loan of Manchester City talent

Norwich City want to extend the loan of Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn after an impressive season at The Canaries, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Gunn has featured 31 times this season for the Canaries and he made his first-team debut in Norwich’s first match of the season, away to Fulham. He got his first professional football clean sheet on 16 August 2017, in a 2–0 home win over Queens Park Rangers at Carrow Road.

Norwich’s sporting director Stuart Webber, when Gunn joined the club on loan “He’s an unbelievably talented goalkeeper. It’s a name dear to the supporters’ hearts but we’re judging Angus on being Angus. We’re really excited to have him here.”

Norwich’s head coach Daniel Farke this summer when Gunn signed on loan “Angus is very highly-rated and a really talented goalkeeper. He’s brilliant with his feet as well as his hands and is tall too. We’re happy to have him here for the next season and are thankful to Manchester City for helping us with this deal. I’m looking forward to working with such a great talent.”

Gunn has competed with Northern Ireland international Michael McGovern and Declan Rudd for the number one jersey, while Remi Matthews and veteran Paul Jones are also still contracted to the club.

Son of iconic City stopper Bryan who is still remembered fondly at Norwich, having made more than 400 appearances during the 80s and 90s, and he believes that his son can make his own history in Norfolk.

The England Under-21 international started his career in Norwich’s Academy before moving to join Manchester City’s youth setup in 2011.

Featuring regularly for their Development Squads, Gunn was named as a substitute for Pep Guardiola’s side on a number of occasions during the 2016-17 season.

Gunn received his first call up to the England national team in November 2017 for a friendly match against Brazil, after Jack Butland withdrew from the squad with an injury.
