5 potential candidates to replace Paul Heckingbottom at Barnsley

Barnsley are in the hunt for a new manager after Paul Heckingbottom has left them to join Leeds United. Here are 5 potential candidates-

Garry Monk- The former Swansea City, Leeds United and Middlesbrough boss has been installed as an early front runner for the Tykes job. He was sacked by Boro in December after a poor start to the season. It will be tough for Barnsley to persuade him to join them, but he would be a great coup by them if they could pull it off.

Simon Grayson- The 48 year-old seems to be linked with most jobs that come available nowadays and he will be in the running for the Barnsley job. He has previously managed Blackpool, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Preston North End and most recently Sunderland. He is another good option for Barnsley.

Uwe Rosler- The current Fleetwood Town manager is another being linked with the Tykes job. He has done a good job with the League One side and deserves another chance in the Championship soon.

Steve McClaren- The former England manager is looking for a job and could be considered by Barnsley. He is vastly experienced at this level and has managed the likes of Middlesbrough and Derby County, as well as spells abroad at FC Twente. He would be a good appointment by Barnsley.

Michael Appleton- The current assistant manager of Leicester City is an outsider for this job. He has managed Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United in the past and is a highly rated coach. He will get another manager’s job in the future.
