Stam, Reading close to sacking head coach

Reading close to sacking head coach

Reading are close to sacking their head coach Jaap Stam according to a report from the Daily Mail.

This season has seen a drastic change in fortunes for the Royals. Last season they were very good with many teams struggling to deal with them. This saw them qualify for a place in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs and they were minutes away from being promoted to the Premier League before they were beaten on penalties in the final by Huddersfield Town.

This season has been completely different though. Reading have been struggling all season and are just about managing to stay above the relegation zone. This has caused a lot of anger from the fans who were expecting to be at the top of the table again and don’t want to be involved in a battle against relegation. Many have even been calling for Stam to be sacked.

And it appears that they may soon be getting their wish. Following Reading’s 2-0 loss to Millwall yesterday which sees them in 18th place, just six points above the relegation zone, the board are preparing to sack Stam in the next few days. The results have clearly not been good enough and with more and more fans calling for the Dutchman to go, his position at the club is clearly becoming untenable. Should the sacking go ahead as the report believes it will, the next question for Reading fans will be who is going to be his replacement and can they make sure that they don’t get relegated.
