Preston North End have bid for Crewe Alexandra midfielder rejected

Preston North End have had a bid for Crewe Alexandra’s Callum Ainley rejected according to report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lilywhites look like they are going to get a big budget boost today with reports saying that Preston will be selling Jordan Hugill for £8m today with Crystal Palace being the most likely destination. However while Preston will be getting all this money, they won’t have that much time to spend it and so are looking to get some targets in as soon as possible. This means all that money won’t just be burning in their pocket until the summer.

One of the players they have been trying to sign is Ainley, a 20-year-old midfielder who came through the famed Crewe academy to become a key first team player for them. He has been an integral part of the first team all season having made 36 appearances since August and scoring five goals. He is just coming off the back of great performance against Swindon Town, scoring twice though it wasn’t enough to stop them losing 4-3.

So it makes sense as to why Preston are making an offer to sign him. But Crewe don’t want to lose one of their best players and have rejected the offer. This means the Lilywhites are going to have to come back with a much improved offer if they want to sign him before the end of the transfer window tonight. This is a deal that may end up going down to the wire.
