Norwich City complete signing of Cuban winger

Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City have signed Cuban winger Onel Hernandez from Eintacht Brauncschweig.

The 24-year-old winger moves to England for an undisclosed fee after agreeing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Canaries.

Hernandez moved to Germany as a six-year-old. The winer progressed through the youth ranks at Arminia Bielefeld before signing for the second teams at Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg. In the summer of 2016 he then joined Braunschweig.

Having signed for the German side just over a year-and-a-half-ago, Hernandez has since made 53 appearances for the second-tier side and socred six goals. His first season with Braunschweig saw the former German under-18 international net five goals and assist four times in 36 League games, playing an influential role as they missed on promotion to the top-flight in the play-offs.

So far this term the winger has found the net once and claimed two assists during his seventeen league performances.

Speaking to Norwich City TV, Hernandez revealed his delight at signing for the Sky Bet Championship side.

“I’m very hungry to play for Norwich,” he said. “I came here to win matches, to give my all for my teammates and my club.

“I like to get the fans excited and everything is very positive.”

Meanwhile, Canaries boss Daniel Farke was pleased to have completed the transfer of the exciting winger.

“Onel had an outstanding season last year in the German second tier, playing on the wing.

“He’s right-footed but can play on both the left wing and the right wing, and he can also play as a quick striker who can make runs in behind. We’re very happy to have him at Norwich.”
