Bradford, Middlesbrough favourites to sign prolific Bradford City striker

Middlesbrough favourites to sign prolific Bradford City striker

Bradford City forward Charlie Wyke has been subject to plenty of interest so far this transfer window, and according to The Daily Mirror, Middlesbrough are in poll position to sign the prolific front man.

It is reported that as many as seven Championship clubs are willing to offer Wyke the opportunity to play in the division above in the second tier. But it is Tony Pulis who wants to bring the striker back to Middlesbrough.

The Bradford no. 9 was born in Middlesbrough and started in the youth ranks, joining as a five year old. He left the club in 2015, after Carlisle United activated an exit clause in his contract believed to be around £250,000 without a senior appearance for his hometown club.

Since leaving Middlesbrough, Wyke has scored 51 goals in 117 games, including 12 already this season, placing him fourth in the EFL League One goalscoring charts. He also has five assists this campaign, more than anyone who has got into double figures.

Pulis is looking to add to his forward line, as deals could be in the pipeline for Martin Braithwaite and Ashley Fletcher for a move away from the club, despite signing both forwards in the Summer window.

Leeds are second favourites to sign the Teessider, as they look to bolster their attack and to replace the goals of Chris Wood, since losing him at the end of last season.

However, Bradford City manager Stuart McCall says that Wyke’s price tag will be in excess of £5m.

“I think he is hugely important to us”, he told Sky Sports News. “If you do not have £5m, do not bother coming.

“I think the chairman has come out and said he is not for sale in this window anyway,” he added. “Now, if he goes out and scores another ten goals and at the end of the season becomes sell-able, that might be the case.”
